These customer favorite tassel earrings are handmade by indigenous Ixil women in Chajul, Guatemala. These have a gold ear wire and thick ivory tassel with a lime/yellow pom. The pom pom is an integral part of the traditional traje of Chajul, making these tassel products a way of honoring a traditional design in a new way.
The Chajul Women’s Association “United for Life” is a weaving cooperative formed in 2008 by indigenous Ixil women of the community of Chajul in the Western highlands of Guatemala and now comprised of 50 members. Before forming the Association, many women in Chajul worked sorting coffee beans. When this job was industrialized, the women founded The Association in order to create a new source of income in their town. Your purchase helps women in Chajul support themselves and their children economically.
